Why pages come out sideways
Automatic document feeders record the orientation of the sheet as it was fed, so a landscape page in a portrait batch is stored rotated. Photos carry orientation metadata that some converters ignore. In both cases the page content is fine; only the rotation flag is wrong.
Rotate one page or all of them
If a scan came out upside-down throughout, rotate everything by 180 degrees in one pass. If a single landscape table is sideways in an otherwise portrait report, rotate that page alone and leave the rest untouched.
Rotation and printing
A page stored with the wrong rotation prints wrong too, and print dialogs handle it inconsistently — one driver auto-corrects, the next produces a sideways sheet. Fixing the rotation in the file removes the guesswork for everyone who touches the document.
It also matters for anything read on a phone, where readers honour the stored rotation and will not let the reader turn a page manually.
Rotating scans in bulk
Feeder scans usually fail in a consistent way: every sheet rotated the same direction, or every second sheet upside-down from a double-sided pass. Look at three or four pages before rotating so you can tell which pattern you have, then correct in one pass instead of page by page.
