How to reorder pages in a PDF
Double-sided scans and hasty merges leave pages out of sequence. Rearranging is visual: move thumbnails until the order reads correctly, then save.

The double-sided scan problem
Scanning a stack face-up and then flipping it gives you all the fronts followed by all the backs in reverse. The pages are all there; only the interleaving is wrong. Rearranging fixes it without rescanning anything.
Work from the thumbnails
- Check the first and last page first — those anchor the document.
- Move pages in small groups rather than one at a time.
- Look for the blank backs of sheets; they usually mark where the order flipped.
Reorder before you number or watermark
Page numbers and watermarks are drawn onto pages as content. Move the pages afterwards and the numbering runs out of sequence. Always settle the order first, then number, then stamp.
When reordering is not the answer
- Pages are missing rather than misplaced — rescan; no amount of reordering conjures a page back.
- Pages are sideways as well as out of order — rotate them first so the thumbnails are readable.
- The document should really be several documents — split it instead of shuffling it.
- Duplicates crept in from a re-fed scan — delete them before you sort what remains.
Step by step
- 1Load the PDF to see every page as a thumbnail.
- 2Drag pages into the correct sequence.
- 3Read the thumbnails through once from start to finish.
- 4Save the reordered document and download it.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I delete pages at the same time?
- Use the page deleter for that, then rearrange what remains — or rearrange first and delete afterwards; the order does not matter.
